Beyond the Toolkit
Community Engagement During Covid-19
I was part of a research team led by Dr. Sarah Switzer exploring how community-engaged practitioners adapted their participatory work to online and remote settings, as a result of COVID-19, and the unique ethical and pedagogical challenges that arised.
As part of the research and findings, I developed illustrated resources. This was a challenging process because the illustrations were not intended as mere decoration, but as sources of information with the capacity to incite conversations.
These illustrations are open source. If you are interested in using them in your facilitation practice and learning more about the project, visit The Beyond the Toolkit website!

In covid-19 times, ethical considerations require manifest through many roads of different challenges and opportunities. In the project’s website there is blank version of this illustration for facilitators to download and use it in their work.
Pedagogical Considerations
These illustrations showcase the many needs to consider when facilitating participatory, community-engaged group processes online or remotely.
For many community-engaged practitioners the remote and online context has made their work a puzzle with many pieces to consider before, during and after facilitating.
