Resistencias

Illustration for the online exhibition “Imágenes para el Bicentenario” organized by Agarracamote.  This exhibit invited 21 Peruvian artists to explore through their art form different problems and opportunities of our current national reality.

I presented “resistencias,” which represents the solidarity among women. A joint force to be noticed as it showcases exchange, networks and solidarity .

The flame represents for me the spirit that moves us to make the changes we need. Braids are something sacred tied to our root. We build together, we are expanding together.

Many times I am in contradiction about how I represent women. I do not want to be an essentialist or represent only women as the biological reproducer of life. I don’t want to always convey a perspective from which the woman is the only one who has to take care of the care, the affection, the love. But there are times when I do want to focus on that.
